Bachelor's degree, Final Portfolio
Meaningful storytelling during a time of disruption
The final year of my bachelor's degree coincided with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This work brings together stories set during a global crisis and major societal change. Through audio episodes, written pieces, and video work, I explore life during lockdown—conversations within South African families, the effects on mental health, daily routines, dreams, media habits, and my relationship with my 100-year-old grandmother.
Audio Series
Dinner Table Conversations: South African families are recorded around their dinner tables, reflecting on familial closeness and distance, psychological perspective and growth, and wellbeing during the early days of lockdown.
Video work
Profile video of my grandmother: This video is a tribute to my 100-year-old grandmother, capturing her experience during the lockdown.
Written Pieces
Patterns of media consumption during the pandemic in South Africa. This data-driven story evaluates patterns of media consumption during lockdown; it wishes to unpack some of the reasons for these patterns as people try to make sense of their current society.
