Nolda
van Geuns
A testament to my grandmother, Nolda van Geuns, whose resilience, particularly during the early days of lockdown, was truly inspiring.
I have shared some of my planning and thought process below.

a moment amidst fiming
As a I sat on the bench next to my grandmother, we watched a lady roll her wheelchair up the ramp in the front garden, and through the sliding doors at Sea Point Place. The light was soft, and we observed it skid down a forlorn-looking leaf.
We had just walked to the chemist on the main road in Sea Point to collect my grandmother's pills. I had watched her red pants dash between the aisles at Clicks, and her kitten heels tap the glossy floor. Despite her age, my grandmother moved with purpose, with vigor.
On our way back, she zoomed her "karretjie" across the street, and, avoiding the zebra crossing, she hurried home.
We sat in the a few minutes longer and then retired to her room for afternoon tea. These moments with my grandmother have been valuable, to cast my attention intentionally and with presence to the moments dotting her life.
